In Celebration of

Adriano Spallacci

October 12, 1929 -  January 14, 2020

Adriano Spallacci, 90, peacefully passed at Juravisnki Hospital with his wife and children at his bedside on 14 January 2020. Born 12 October 1929 in Pergola, Pesaro, Italy, Adriano was the oldest of six children, and developed a strong appreciation for family, that was reflected by his stories of his earlier years, in which he always spoke adoringly of his parents Silvia and Gino, and his siblings, Anna, Leda, Marisa, Sandro and Guiseppina as well as their spouses, Benedetto, Benedetto, Adriano, Mary, and Giorgio.

Growing up during wartime, Adriano lived through precarious conditions that produced hardship and uncertainty; yet, he forged onwards, graduating from agricultural college in Fabriano, Italy-an extraordinary accomplishment for the era. A model of resilience and perseverance, Adriano immigrated to Canada in 1956, and the following year, he established a development company, Spallacci Homes. Adriano’s family business-sustained by his sons, many of his grandchildren, and faithful employees-remains foundational and integral to Hamilton’s ever-changing city structure.

A seemingly modest, humble, and quiet man, Adriano’s history, experiences, and stories reveal a rich and full life, built by a sensitive, creative, brilliant and complex man. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Anna Maria, a loving father to his children, Diana, Frank, Vivian, Rudi, and Loren, and their spouses, Luigino, Louisa, Sam, Anna, and Sandra, and he cared deeply for his nieces and nephews. Adriano was admired by his many grandchildren, Riccardo, Amanda, Amadeo, Krizia, Adrian, Rudi Jr., Francesco, Angela, Natalia, Silvia, Azzadine, Alessio, Sabrina, Simona, and Matteo. Beloved Brother in law to Secondo and Pierina, Mario and Vera, Mariannina and Guiliano.

After losing his daughter, Vivian, and grandchildren, Francesco and Azzadine to a fatal car accident in 2005, Adriano’s grief manifested into a serious stroke. He spent the remainder of his life torn between his feelings of joy, while he was surrounded by his loving family, and the crippling emotional and physical pain of missing his daughter and grandchildren. Our sincerest gratitude to Adriano’s family physician, Dr. Angelo Zizzo, his many caregivers, including Loretta, Lynda, and Nurse Tim, and the medical teams at Juravinksi, General and St. Joseph’s hospitals, who all provided compassionate care and ensured that Adriano live the rest of his life with dignity.

Adriano's Funeral Mass will be held at St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church, 20 Idlewood Avenue, Hamilton on Friday, January 17, 2020 at 10:00 am. Entombment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery, Burlington.

For those who wish, memorial donations made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. Please sign the online Book of Condolences at www.baygardens.ca
