In Celebration of

Allan Bignell

August 17, 1955 -  April 2, 2018

It is with extremely heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Allan Macleod Bignell on April 2, 2018. Allan passed while surrounded by his family in Venice, Florida at the young age of 62. Beloved husband of Francine Pilon-Bignell for 40 years; cherished father to Eric (Angela), Jean (Jess), Marc (Elise), and Sara (Adam); adored grandfather to Carter Allan (Jean and Jess); admired brother to Dave (Janice) and Joanne (Fred Heinola); son of the late Lloyd and Christine. Allan was a transformative business leader and a loyal friend, but above all else, he was a dedicated family man and someone who always lived life with contagious optimism and positivity. With a Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Allan held several executive positions throughout his professional career, most recently as the proud President of L-3 Wescam, Burlington, Ontario. During his personal and business life, he had a profound impact on many people, and as such, the family would like to invite all relatives and friends to the visitation and celebration of life, as detailed below. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hamilton Regional Stroke Rehabilitation Centre or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada would be appreciated (please make sure to note that the donation is in memory of Allan Bignell to ensure the funds are distributed correctly). Two visitations have been scheduled for Saturday, April 14th, 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm, at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 947 Rymal Rd E, Hamilton, ON L8W 3M2. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club on Sunday, April 15th at 1:00 pm, 232 Golf Links Rd, Ancaster, ON L9G 2N5. Although I didn’t know Allan well, I had the pleasure of playing a number of rounds with him last season at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club .
Allan was very much a gentleman-as he struggled on the course with great determination he had the ability to smile and demonstrate great joy as he played the game of golf . He also had the ability to hit wonderful long golf shots and of course he remained humble .
I will miss Allan-condolences to his family and friends

My deepest sympathies to all the family at this extremely sad time, I was very fortunate to have know Allan for a short time while we worked together at Wescam.
I shall never forget our first meeting when he joined Wescam, it was like a breath of fresh air. A true gentleman in every respect, the world will be a poorer place as a result of his passing, May he Forever Rest In Peace.

My deepest sympathy to Francine and Family in their loss. It is an honour to have served with Allan as fellow executives of Wescam Inc. But the best was simply sharing a piece of my own life journey with a "Great Guy".

Thank you Allan and rest in peace.
