In Celebration of

Antonio Smerilli

June 14, 1943 -  February 8, 2017

SMERILLI, Antonio

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a cherished husband and father, Antonio, on Wednesday February 8th 2017, at the age of 73.
With the same courage and tenacity with which he faced his illness, Antonio passed away peacefully surrounded by his adoring family. Loving husband of Maria Grazia for 48 years and devoted father to Laura, Lisa and her husband Antonio Imparato. Antonio was born in Vasto, Italy and was predeceased by his parents Filippo and Grazia Smerilli (nee Raspa). Dear brother and brother-in-law of Adelia and the late Nicola, the late Michele and Tina (Italy), Nicolina and the late Luigi, Giuseppe (Italy), Vince and Lina, Natale and the late Concetta Luppino, Domenico and Nadia (Italy) and Giuliano and Maria Spina (Italy). He will also be lovingly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in Canada and Italy. Antonio's greatest passions were his family, hard work and his enchanted garden. He was extremely gifted and everything he touched became a piece of art . His wife and daughters would like to sincerely thank Dr. Ludwin, Dr. Alton, Dr. Miller, his "special" nurse Janet and all of the staff at the St. Joseph's Stoney Creek Dialysis Clinic. Antonio was very wise but his wisest words were, "When you're faced with either giving up or a rocky road, always choose the rocky road because it will be the road on which you will strengthen and succeed." Visitation at Bay Gardens Funeral Home - "William J. Markey Chapel", 947 Rymal Road East, HAMILTON (905.574.0405) on Sunday, February 12th from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Vigil prayers for Antonio will be held Sunday evening at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Annunciation of Our Lord Church, 280 Limeridge Road West, Hamilton on Monday, February 13th at 10:30 am. Entombment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery, Burlington. For those who wish, memorial donations made to the Kidney Foundation would be appreciated. So very very sorry to hear of the passing of your beloved husband and father. Tony was so filled with kindness and was a true gentleman. I first saw his beautiful stained glass art at the Mum Show at Gage Park and was truly amazed at his creativity and skill. I am sure he was loved by all who knew him. Please accept our deepest sympathy and condolences at such a difficult time. Sending warm thoughts and prayers your way!

Dearest Smerellli family,

Mu husband worked with Tony at Sackville. I had the pleasure of spending an evening with Tony and his wife Grace at their home. I viewed his "enchanted" garden filled will creatively placed flower beds filled with artistic love. But what captured my heart was their home. Tony is everywhere in that home. Tony and Grace let us into their treasure box and i will never foget that experience. Every corner has a story. i am sure he will be so sadly missed. But the only thing i can say as an outsider is he certainly "lived" his life to his fullest potential. What a beautiful gift and memory he leaves behind. His beautiful rock and butterfly has been on our living room mantle since that evening I met Tony...and that is where it will stay. Thought s and prayers are with all of you.
