It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Antonio after a courageous battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, surrounded by his family at St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton on Friday, July 7, 2017, at the age of 77 years. Devoted husband of Malta Italia Russo (nee Gabriele) for 48 years. Loving father of Mike Russo (Maria) and Angela Esposto (Franco). Cherished Nonno of Emma, Anthony, Eliana and Livia. Dear brother of Concetta Memmolo (late Domenico) of Italy, late Felice Russo (Gemma) of Hamilton and the late Marietta Dell ' Erario (late Emilio) of Italy. Brother-in-law to the late Giuseppe Gabriele (late Elizabeth), late Ermindo Gabriele (late Anne), late Luisa Fabrizio, (Giovanni & Mary Fabrizio), Guido Gabriele (Lucy), Antonietta Martin (Bruce), Mario Gabriele (Mary), and late Maria Franchella (late Enrico) of Italy. Tony will be sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews and friends both here in Canada and Italy. Tony was a very happy & kind man, and can be remembered by his playful sense of humour. He was a family man who always made time for others and found the good in everyone. Tony was devoted to working hard for his family everyday of his life and had spent over 40 years in the business which he started where many will remember him from , Playboy Barber Shop. He loved all his customers, many of which became great friends over the years. A heartfelt and special thanks to the Palliative Care Team of St. Joseph's Hospital, Dr. Woods, Dr. Alton, Dr. Pellizzari and nurses for their exceptional care and compassion during Tony's stay. Visitation at Bay Gardens Funeral Home - "William J. Markey Chapel", 947 Rymal Road East, HAMILTON (905.574.0405) on Tuesday, July 11th from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm and on Wednesday, July 12th from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm. and 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm. The Vigil Prayers will be held on Wednesday evening at 8:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church, 20 Idlewood Avenue, Hamilton on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 10:00 am. Entombment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery, Burlington. For those who wish, memorial donations made to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or to St. Joseph's Healthcare Foundation would be appreciated. I walked into the Playboy barbershop for the first time in 1985 - 32 years ago. Tony cut my hair many times over the years and we had some nice chats; he always remembered our previous talks about my hobbies, family, etc. I missed him for the last couple of years when he was ill.
I'll always remember him every time I get a haircut! :-)
