In Celebration of

Calogero "Charlie" Taibi

February 24, 1928 -  March 5, 2018

With sad hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Charlie on March 5th, 2018 at Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice at the age of 90. Beloved husband of Maria (nee Papalia) for 58 years. Cherished father and father-in-law Frank (Mirella) Taibi, Joseph (Helen) Taibi and Teresa (Elio) DiCienzo. Loving Nonno of Paul (1989-2013), Michael, David, Angie, Joey, Lucas, Christopher, Emma, Melissa and Claudia. Son and son-in-law to the late Francesco and Diega Taibi and the late Giuseppe and Marianna Papalia. Dear brother and brother-in-law of the late Nicolo and Francesca Taibi, the late Rosa and Roger DiNardo, Concetta and the late Salvatore Taibi, the late Angela and Pasquale Spadafora and the late Fortunato Papalia. Charlie always will be remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Stories about his birth town of Racalmuto Province of Agrigento Sicily always brought happy tears in his eyes. At a young age he was working the family land and caring for the animals they owned to help his widowed mother put food on the table. In 1953 he arrived in Hamilton never to forget his Sicilian lifestyle, religion and traditions, good food, folklore music and dancing. At family gatherings he taught his children family values, respect, most of all hard-honest work all while having a great sense of humour. He learned to become a skilled welder and was part owner of an Iron Railing Business. He had a special talent to create and build many inventions in his own way. At retirement, he spent many hours in the “Bacca Yarrda” (backyard) with his homegrown veggies, herbs and fruit trees. Charlie was a member of Carpenter Union Local 18, Hester Street Bocce Club. A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Susan VanBaardwijk for her compassion and care. To everyone at the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice, your care, affection and dignity for Charlie will be never be forgotten. Visitation at Bay Gardens Funeral Home - "William J. Markey Chapel", 947 Rymal Road East, HAMILTON (905.574.0405) on Friday March 9th from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm. We will always remember Charlie for his quiet kindness, and gentlemanly ways. His pride in his vegetable garden was only exceeded by his obvious love for his wife Mary and his family.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
