Obituary
Charles Samuel Re (BA, B.Ed)
August 2, 1951 – July 12, 2016
After a brief illness, Charlie passed away at Hamilton General Hospital on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at age 64, with his family by his side. Pre-deceased by his father Anthony Re (Tony), mother Lily, and little sister Linda Marie.
Survived by his wife of 42 years, Elizabeth; son Jeremy (Jessica) and grandchildren Tenebre and Ianto; and son John-Paul (Tania) and grandchildren Elunia and Julliet.
Also survived by his siblings and their spouses, children, and grandchildren -- Joe and Grace; Mary Catherine and Tom (Adam; Kendra and spouse Jason: Victoria, Mikayla, and Jamison; Bridget and spouse Andy: Lily); and Theresa (Daniel and Mark). He will be much missed by his sisters-in-law Jane and Julie Naczynski.
Will be dearly missed by his Saturday Gage Park and Sunday morning Pearson Park football buddies as well as his colleagues and students at Gary Allan High School, where he was a popular teacher of adult and at-risk learners. Greatly loved by his neighbours, as well as all who knew him.
Charlie was an automotive enthusiast and liked nothing better than to be behind the wheel or under the hood of his dream car, his Miata. He was also more than happy to get under your car to help you if you were having mechanical troubles. A natural teacher, he never failed to turn a car repair into a learning opportunity. He ensured that the work he did was well explained and that you understood the process he followed.
He took particular delight in his role as grandfather and was very involved in the lives of his grandchildren, who called him “Pops-Pop.”
An ardent and lifelong supporter of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Canadian football.
A seasoned globetrotter, Charlie enjoyed travel, driving himself and his family across Canada coast to coast, as well as to New York, Colorado, Florida, and many trips to Manitoulin and Sauble Beach. He embarked on several cruises of the Caribbean; as well, he visited Italy, France, and Hawaii.

My memories of Charlie is that he's always there when someone needs help. He helped me buy a car. That may not seem like a big deal to many, but when you know nothing about cars you go to the person you trust the most. Charlie is an amazing man.
Charlie is one of the most kindest sweetest men I know. Always so positive. Charlie was always there to listen when you needed to talk. He never judged. He has a very calming influence that I tapped into often. I will miss Charlie for a long long time. Charlie loved his family, spoke of them often. What I want Liz to know is he had a second family at school. Well respected and loved. |

I was deeply saddened to hear about Charlie's passing.
He was such a good, kind man, and a true friend. He will be missed by many. I only hope he knew how much he was loved, and what a difference he made in the lives of others. |

Once, I met Charlie and Liz as we arrived for a party. I admired his nearly new Mazda Miata, and he proudly showed me its features, then offered to let me drive the car. Then Charlie began to walk away from the car. "You're not coming with me?" "No, take it for a good spin," Charlie said.
That's generosity -- and trust!
Charlie was a good and generous and spirited gentleman. He will be missed. |
