Obituary
Ditta, Christine R.N. (nee Turvey)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Christine on April 8, 2016 at home in her 60th year. Devoted wife and soulmate to Vince for 37 years. Loving mother and best friend to Vanessa (Peter), Steve (Reina) and David (Emily). Adored and proud grandmother of Sofia. Dear daughter of Ronald and the late Anita Turvey. Loving sister of Rosalyn (Gerry) Thomson and Carol (Mike) Garvey. Cherished daughter-in-law of Vito and Sally Ditta and sister-in-law of Sandra (Brian) McLeish. She will also be missed by nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, Grandpuppies and colleagues in the ICU unit.

Late in life and overcoming adversities, Christine realized her childhood dream of becoming a Registered Nurse. As an RN in ICU at Oakville Trafalgar Hospital, she demonstrated a genuine passion for patients and peers alike. Christine was an avid quilter and enjoyed life to its fullest.

Memorial donations in honour of Christine may be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

To know her was to love her!

Chris was forever making me laugh, while providing exemplary care for my patients in the Intensive Care unit. Her quick wit would always brighten my day. Her optimistic cynicism was a always put on display whenever we talked of family life. She loved her hubbie, children and grandchildren very much. That came through everytime i spoke of my children and shared pics of them on my phone during rounds. Clearly she was needed for urgent care of a patient in the holiest of ICUs in the sky. Just as she always does, she jumped at the chance to be a helping hand. It was with heavy heart that I say that She will be sorely missed. In my ten years as an Intensivist at OTMH, she was always a straight shooter and team player. With Love, Sonny and family (Asia, Rylee, my wife Rachel).

I had only known Chris for a short while, but did hear many stories about her family. She spoke of her husband Vince. She shined when speaking about her daughter's wedding last year. I also heard how excited she was to spend new year's eve with her grand baby. She was so happy to have pizza with bacon on it. She explained this was a must for her granddaughter! I am sure her family is well aware of how loved they where by her.
Chris was a brilliant nurse who was dedicated to her patients and very supportive towards her colleagues. I will miss her smile and laughter.
Chris will be missed by many. My thoughts and prayers are extended to her family.

I am so deeply saddened by the loss of our wonderful friend and colleague. I had the great pleasure of working with Chris this past Wednesday. Chris always made me laugh and no matter what kind of crazy day we were having in the unit, you could always count on Chris to keep the mood light. She was such a genuine and caring person. She always spoke about her family with so much excitement and love. I will miss her.
Thinking of you at this difficult time,
Laura Farewell

My last few shifts I worked next to Chris and we covered each other for breaks. She was always positive and made the day go by easier. I do not remember in my three years in the ICU having seen Chris upset or cranky. She told me about her upcoming trip to France (her country of birth). We shared pictures and she spoke to me about Vince’s Italian background and his family. When my mother died unexpectedly at the same age as Chris the priest told me: “God calls the good people to him”. I wish they were not so “good” a little longer. Please accept my condolences.

I will ALWAYS remember the first time I met Chris.
I had decided to return to school at the ripe old age of 27 to and fulfill my dream of becoming a nurse.
I remember thinking that I was so brave going back at my age among all these much younger women and men.
I remember thinking how much wisdom I will have to share with them and how they would be so interested in my story.
I also remember being very nervous and terrified that I would not make the cut and that maybe I was to old to fit in or be able to manage the long hours of studying and doing pregrad training.....without pay and working on the side.
I remember thinking I was sooooo confident to even go back to school.........
I remember that first day getting assigned my home room class and heading in to take a seat, meet my fellow class mates and start my new adventure.
And thats when I met Chris.......a middle aged mom of 3.... bald from chemo therapy sitting at the back of the class with a big smile on her face .....if she had a tail it would have been wagging like crazy.
I thought to myself.........are you kidding me, well there goes my chances of impressing anybody...lol
We quickly became friends.....I was so inspired by her determination, humour and passion.....she was a Giant!!
We shared many nights studying until we were delirious and laughing(or crying) hysterically(it was hard to tell some nights).....and that was before the wine even came out.
We Both graduated and went on to work at Oakville Hospital on 2Centre Surgical....actually Chris got me my first interview.
Years Later I too was Diagnosed with breast cancer and Chris was one of the first people to reach out to me to offer her support and encouragement.
Every surgery I had during my treatment...Chris somehow knew and would always pop her head in to say hi and check up on me....that's just who she was.
She was so proud of her kids and was always full of updates on there lives and goings on.
Then came her first Grandchild .........well I had never seen her that excited except for maybe that first day of nursing school.
She has been a bright light for so many people, wether it was family, friends,co workers or her patients...
I feel blessed and honoured to have known you and be able to call you my friend.
