Obituary
With utmost sadness and empty hearts our family announces the passing of our most cherished, father, grand-father, great-grandfather, uncle, companion and friend in his remarkable 94th year. Surrounded by love, affection and his family, Horacio passed peacefully at the Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital, Burlington on Wednesday, September 7th, 2016 and joins his most loyal and loving wife, Ilda Massa (September 20, 2015), cherished son, Cristiano Massa (February 24, 2014) and beautiful daughter-in-law, Nemesia Massa (August 25, 2016).

Most adored and devoted father to John (Anne), Alda (Joe), Honorato (Fatima), Mary, Gabby (Luis), Benn (Joey), Ross and father-in-law to Angelina. Humble and dedicated Vavô to Lenny, Mark, Kelly, Philip, Derek, Shawn, Sarah, Neil, William, Bradley, Adam, Gary, Brennan, Sheldon, Cameron, Cassandra, Shelby and Chantel. Proud Bisvavô to Kylie, Matteo, Alex, Makayla, Daniella, Maya, Caleigh, Isabela, Jackson and Cristiano. He will also be fondly remembered by Jose and Tony and leaves behind a strong network of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends in Canada, the United States, the Azores and mainland Portugal.

Together with his family, Horacio immigrated to Angola, Africa in 1962 and worked tirelessly to provide for his family as the owner and operator of Quitamba, an African Hotel and Restaurant. In 1975, following time spent as refugees in Grootfontein, South Africa, Horacio and his family immigrated to Canada. Year after year, Horacio together with Ilda worked diligently to provide for his children and grandchildren. As a proud and grateful Canadian, Horacio embraced all that Canada had offered him.

My parents, Tony and Sofia Ciuro met Horacio and Ilda about 7 years ago. Together the four of them with their broken English and with Chris as the go between translator managed to converse, laugh and share stories for several hours. I know my Dad was very fond of Horacio and I believe the feeling was mutual. So sorry for your loss. Our condolences to the entire Massa family. Ken and Nancy Hedderson.
