In Celebration of

Lois Elizabeth Lathe

May 17, 1925 -  November 18, 2016

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lois Lathe, née Swerdfager, on November 18, in her 92nd year, at The Village of Tansley Woods in Burlington. Formerly of The Fireplace Centre on Plains Road, The Halton Small Business Advisory Group and Paron Construction, Lois is predeceased by Gord, her husband of 64 years. Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Marilyn (Ken), Shauna (Ian), Scott and Bari, her beloved grandchildren, Valerie (Nathan), Craig, Keara and Kimberly, and her dear great-grandsons, Henry and Simon. Lois was raised in Ottawa where she met Gord, her life partner, at Lisgar Collegiate. They married when he returned from WWII and had four children before moving to Aldershot in 1965. Lois entered the work force and rose to the position of property manager, overseeing buildings in Guelph, Waterloo and Kingston. She later worked in the family fireplace business and served as secretary/treasurer for a local business advisory group. She enjoyed her work as well as her holidays with Gord in North Bay, Brockville, Naples and Hawaii, but her greatest joy was her family, and in particular, her grandchildren. Lois will be remembered as an accomplished business woman, an outstanding friend and above all, a caring and loving mother and grandmother. She lived a rich and sometimes challenging life with strength, dignity, passion and resiliency. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to family and friends for their support at this difficult time. Our sincere gratitude to the wonderful caregivers in the Bronte area at the Village of Tansley Woods, for the care they provided in her later years, and also, previously, to the staff at Martha’s Landing. Cremation has taken place.

Lois was a wonderful woman who let her daughter and I (Mutt and Jeff), as we were known back then, traipse around her house, ooohing and awwing over the cute boys at her living room window; helped us pick out jewelery for our Grade 7 jewelery show from her own private stash, and generally offered a secure and safe place for me to spend my pre-teen years. She was a lovely woman and I will miss her.....
