Murray Fenton Turnbull
October 20, 1937 - September 24, 2016
Obituary
Murray Fenton Turnbull,

Born in Dundee Scotland on October 20th, 1937 was the 4th of 5 children to Rhoda and Alexander Turnbull. In his youth he served in the RAF in Germany. He moved with his young family to Montreal in 1968 and settled in Burlington, Ontario in 1976.

Murray died peacefully on Saturday, September 24th at Billings Court Manor.
He will be fondly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Aileen and by his 5 children and eight grandchildren; Lynn, Gerald and James Gaw; Shiona, Graham, Jennifer and Heather Purves; David Turnbull; Lesley, Laszlo, Christine, Hailey and Andrew Bajzar; Sharon, Matthew and Taylor Turnbull and by his 3 sisters, Rhoda, Joyce and Sandra.

Murray was a story teller. He had a gift and could fill any tale with amazing details, humour and lively characters. He enjoyed his many fishing trips, first with his friends, then later with his son, son in law and their friends, travelling to Northern Quebec, the French River and the Bay of Quinte, always resulting in new, exciting stories to tell. He was a valued fishing companion, rising early to make breakfast for all of the slow movers. He was an avid golfer starting in his young days in Scotland and continued playing throughout his life. He even took a part time job in retirement with Club Links to maximize his time on the course. Murray had a passion for food and wine and always enjoyed a hearty meal with family and friends. Sunday dinners at the Turnbull house were usually an event. Murray was loyal, hard working and trustworthy. In his no fuss way he was a man of integrity and honour. Traits his children feel lucky to have learned from him. To his family and friends it was a privilege and pleasure to have known him. He will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers a donation to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.

Memorial to be scheduled at a later date.

I clearly remember dancing with father at a wedding when I was a teenager. It was to an old song by INXS called The Devil inside. It was a new song for him and on hearing the words he laughed and said "I'm not sure why "you make me sweat...." (A line fromthe song) is a good thing... but I can dance to this, and we did. He always sang along with the popular songs but often gots the words mixed up in the funniest ways. He still makes me smile when I think of the times he could make me laugh. That's just one of the many things I will miss about him.

I have many wonderful memories of times spent with my Dad. He would take me to my gymnastics competitions when I was younger (and deal with my nerves), I used to carpool with him when I started working at Duracell (singing along to the latest songs on CHUM FM), he kept me calm when we were stuck waiting for a train at a level crossing for over 30 minutes on my wedding day, of sightseeing, enjoying local cuisine and fishing on trips to the Bahamas, North Carolina and Florida. Gerald enjoyed many fishing trips with Dad and James used to love Grandad coming to babysit. I learned the importance of hard work from him and I attribute that to my success in my career. We loved you and will miss you dearly. Lynn, Gerald and James.
