In Celebration of

Ramachandra Vasan

December 16, 2016

Vasan, Ramachandra Srini

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ramachandra Srini Vasan on December 16, 2016; loving husband of Pushpa for 51 years; cherished father of Ram (deceased), Dharma, and Hari; devoted “Thatha” of Divya, Arjun, Suryan, and baby girl due this summer all of whom will miss him dearly.

Srini was born in Madurai, India in 1938, to loving parents Ramachandra Iyer and Dharmambal; brother to four siblings, Subramanian (deceased), Meenakshi (deceased), Rukmani (deceased), and Padma. He distinguished himself with his dry wit, keen intellect, and honest, genial personality, graduating first with an undergraduate degree in English language and literature and finally with a law degree from Madras Law College. Enticed by the prospect of improving opportunities for his family he made his way to Canada in 1971 working two jobs while seeking a law articling position in Toronto. Eventually succeeding, he built a law practice in Hamilton, Ontario distinguishing himself with his deep understanding of civil law. His many, diverse, loyal clientele appreciated not only his legal expertise but also his friendship, humour, and integrity. His colleagues and students revered his wisdom and frequently sought his advice. He enjoyed himself most when surrounded by friends and family, engaged in conversation, reveling in challenging topics of politics, philosophy, science, and literature, preferably with a glass of single malt scotch and a good laugh. He was fond of both South Indian and Western classical music but perhaps his greatest passion was English literature. In spite of his health, in his later years, he persevered, his pride maintained by his thirst for life, even throwing aside his cane to dance at his son’s wedding. He worked to his last day, never retiring, because he loved a challenge, because he would not go quietly in to that good night. Appa, we love you.

“He was a man. Take him for all in all.
I shall not look upon his like again.” – William Shakespeare, Hamlet

Special thanks to Drs. Ludwin, Kitching, Namburi, Velianou, Miller and the numerous other health care providers who cared for him over the years.

Visitation at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 1010 Botanical Drive, BURLINGTON (905.527.0405) on Wednesday December 21 from 5-8pm. A service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday December 22, 2016 at 1pm followed by private cremation at Bayview Cemetery.

Srini, we used to ,joke around as to whether you'd be coming to my funeral or me to yours I'm distressed to say the latter has prevailed.. So many times I told you how much I admired you for putting up with all of your health issues & without complaint but that was YOU!! I remember the first day I met you 40 years ago I am honored to have known you & considered you & Pushpa & family as best friends You were 10 times the man I could ever have hoped to be I remember asking you one day if there was any part of you that wasn't broken!! WITHOUT HESITATION you answered "MY BRAIN" - that proved the point!!

RIP MY FRIEND YOU DESERVE IT you put up with all of your health issues with the dgnity that was YOU - YOU have worked long enough On Thursday night when I was leaving you, I wished you good luck on Friday SO SORRY I was not convincing enough!! For MY PART, I HOPE OUR PATHS WILL CROSS AGAIN!! LIKE IT OR NOT -I AM COMING!!

LOVE FOREVER - CRAIG
