In Celebration of

Stanislao Berlingieri

March 28, 1926 -  November 28, 2018

BERLINGIERI, Stanislao
1926 - 2018

Peacefully on November 28, 2018, at Juravinski Hospital, age 92. Beloved husband of Barbara (Filice) for 61 years. Loving father to Reno (Marie), Maria (his favourite who constantly spoiled him), and Antonella Esposto (Sam). Adored Nonno to Diana (James), Anthony, Peter and David.

Born in Donnici, Cosenza, Italy, March 28, 1926, at age 25 immigrated to Canada, immediately began working as a labourer (LIUNA), never refusing overtime work, always to provide the best for his family.

We had many wonderful family trips to Italy, where we met new relatives, saw wonderful sights, witnessed relatives farming land for the landowner, as he had done before leaving Italy and each time all of us returning to Hamilton inspired and more motivated. Stan was also very thankful for the opportunities the new country, Canada, gave to his family.

He constantly impressed upon his children and grandchildren the importance of education, inclusiveness and respect for all. He cheered for the Leafs, watched any soccer game, enjoyed a card game and loved attending functions at the Hamilton Donnici Social Club.

Age 56 was the beginning of various health issues, multiple surgeries and many hospital stays. In his last years, he was grateful for the outstanding care provided by his wife, Barbara, and the many visits from family, relatives and friends. He particularly enjoyed his wife's daily espressos, biscotti, homemade meals and the benefit of her "organic" backyard fruit and vegetables.

Family was most important to him. He adored his grandchildren and loved sharing his childhood stories of his modest beginnings with all of us. He was also proud of the successes of all of his relatives and friends.

Stan was a humble, gentle man who was stoic, resilient, lived a simple life and left a beautiful legacy.

We are so fortunate.

Stan is survived by his brother Mario (Ada), and predeceased by his brother Domenico (Ida), who both always lived with him or near him. He is predeceased by his parents Carmine and Rosina (Caputo), his sisters Sarafina Fortino (Giovanni), Angelina Perrelli (Santo) and Virginia Filice (Antonio).

Predeceased by brother-in-law Attilio Filice (Nina) and sister-in-law Maria Giordano (Ernesto). Deeply missed by sister-in-law Lidia Fortino (Eugenio), brothers-in-law Palmo Filice, Eugenio Filice (Marisa) and aunt Maria Aloe (Pasquale).
Also loved and respected by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in Ontario and Italy.

Heartfelt gratitude to nephew Dr. J Berlingieri, Dr. J Leone, Dr. J De Beer, physicians and workers floor E3 Juravinski Hospital, paramedics, CCAC, St. Elizabeth, Paramed, CBI Home Health, St. Joseph's Home Care, Mancinelli Family (LIUNA) and neighbor Nick Cicchetti.

Visitation at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 947 Rymal Road East, Hamilton, on Saturday, December 1st, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Sunday, December 2nd, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Vigil prayers on Saturday at 8 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be at Annunciation of Our Lord Parish, 280 Limeridge Road West, at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 3rd.
