Victoria "Vicky" Skypas

November 1, 1952 -  May 27, 2018

SKYPAS, Victoria “Vicky”

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Victoria Skypas (nee Vasil). Vicky passed peacefully in the early morning hours of Sunday, May 27th, 2018, at the age of 65. She was the beloved wife of Mark Skypas for 48 years, and a loving mother to Bryan and Marcus (Caroline). She was a devoted grandmother and will be missed by her grandchildren, Matthew, Sophia, Vanessa and Jessica. Vicky was the very loved first child of Nicholas and Thelma Vasil, whom she predeceases. She will be greatly missed by her sister Sophia (Stephen) Guagliano.

Also survived by her brothers Peter (Tina) Vasil, Steve (Jane) Vasil and her sister in law Irene Skypas.

Vicky was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario. As her children grew, she and Mark moved to Mississauga, and she returned to the work force and spent many years as a Human Resource Manager for the Ontario Public School Board Association in Toronto. Vicky retired in 2015 and she and Mark moved, to Grand Valley- a lovely peaceful little town up north where they spent many lovely afternoons on drives through this beautiful area.

Vicky enjoyed her home and family and the beautiful gardens and pond she painstakingly maintained. Nothing, however, could replace the joy she had in her children and grandchildren she so adored.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Minden, Dr. Andre Leutinsky and especially the team lead by Dr. Dennis Kim. We also have a great appreciation for all the nursing staff and members of the Oncology Department and all the staff on wards 14, 15 and 16 where Vicky spent many weeks as well as the care that was provided by the doctors at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto. There are too many individuals to name but the kind care and comfort to Vicky will be always and forever appreciated.
If desired, donations in Vicky’s memory can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma society of Canada or a charity of your choice.

As per Vicky’s wishes, a private service was held and cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangement have been entrusted to BAY GARDENS FUERNAL HOME, 1010 Botanical Drive BURLINGTON (905.527.0405).

Vicky was a colleague but she quickly became a very close friend who supported me both professionally and personally. She was always there to listen and provide advice, or even to just give me a shoulder to lean on. She was such a beautiful person and I will forever cherish our friendship. She will be sadly missed but never forgotten. Vicky will always have a special part of my heart.

My most sincere condolences to you Mark and to your family.

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I find the need to sign this condolence book so soon in her lifetime and I can only hope that Vickys children and grandchildren take solace in remembering that her legacy of strength, love, caring, selflessness and thoughtfulness continues to live on thru them. May her memory be eternal and know that she will be missed by many myself and my mother Zoi Ouzas included.

It is with deepest regret that we learned of Vicky's passing. Vicky and I worked together and became good friends which eventually included our husbands in the friendship. Both Bob and I will miss her dearly. Sometimes months would pass in between calls or visits but we would just pick up where we left off. She loved to tell stories of her adored grandchildren. Our love goes out to Mark and to your family.
