In Celebration of

Virginia Ico

March 26, 1936 -  September 14, 2024

Surrounded by her loving family, Virginia Ico was welcomed into God’s arms on September 14th, 2024, in her 89th year. She will be missed by her husband of 63 years, Nazario Ico that she fondly called “Dear”. Loving mother to Tess Soteras (Joel) and Robert Ico (Adriana). Beloved Nanay to K.C. and Daniel Soteras, and Marissa, Jessica and Madeline Ico.

Virginia is now reunited with her parents and many siblings, finding peace alongside them. Her memory will be fondly cherished by her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, in Canada and abroad.

Born in Tarlac, Philippines, Virginia immigrated to Canada with her husband and two children in 1974 with a vision for a prosperous future. The consummate caregiver, she worked in the nursing profession for 25 years, eventually retiring from St. Olga’s nursing home.

As the matriarch of her family, Virginia played an instrumental role in helping many of her relatives from the Philippines start a better life in Canada. She provided not just a place to stay, but a home filled with love, warmth and support for those beginning their journey. Her door was always open, and her table was always plentiful.

For Virginia, her greatest joy was found in the presence of family and friends. Nothing filled her heart with happiness more than gathering with those she loved, and it is in these moments of togetherness that her spirit will forever live in our hearts.

A warm thank you is extended to Right at Home and the Bayshore palliative care team for their tender care. Gratitude is extended to family and friends for all their love and support.

Funeral visitation will be held at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 947 Rymal Road E, Hamilton, ON, on Wednesday, September 18th, 2–4 pm and 6–9 pm. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, September 19th, 10:30 am at St. Catherine of Siena, 620 Rymal Road, Hamilton, ON. Burial to follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
