In Celebration of

Amanda Glenna Hurdowar

April 22, 1976 -  April 25, 2023

Amanda Glenna Hurdowar, April 22, 1976-April 25, 2023

It is with profound sorrow that we share the loss of Mandy Hurdowar, age 47. Mandy was born in Toronto, grew up in New Germany, Nova Scotia and Markham, Ontario and settled in Burlington, Ontario with her husband Darun and two boys, Josh, 14 and Ben, 11. Mandy was a vivacious, fun-loving and dedicated mom and partner. She was a valued friend in her community and neighbourhood.
Beloved daughter of Sandra Doyle, sister of Craig (Iliana) and Shane (Belinda), sister-in-law of Sue, Anita (Steve) and Diana (Jaime), and favourite auntie to many. She was proficient at whatever she turned her hand to, from cooking to sewing and knitting, to home renovations or crafts. She was as comfortable with a mitre saw in her hand as she was with a spatula. Mandy was a marvel.
Mandy worked at SickKids Hospital, Hamilton Health Sciences and most recently at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and helped to improve the health care experience for patients. She will be greatly missed by her work colleagues as well.
A private cremation will take place. A celebration of life will take place at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Great Hall, 1382 Ontario Street, Burlington ON L7S 1G1 on Saturday April 29, from 1:00 to 3:00pm.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Amanda’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Amanda was a wonderful colleague at Hamilton Health Sciences. Her friendly smile, kind heart and great sense of humour is what I will always remember. She loved her son’s very much and spoke of them often. May her love continue to comfort her family and friends through this difficult time.

My sincere condolences to Amanda's family, especially her two precious boys Josh and Ben. Amanda was a treasured colleague from SickKids and a bright light. Her kindness, quick wit, and reassuring presence were appreciated by everyone. She developed the Clinical Practice Guidelines process at SickKids from the ground up and won over the hearts and minds of many in her efforts to improve patient care. I feel very fortunate to have worked with her and know she will be missed by all.

Amanda was my boss but she was so much more than that. To put it simply, she changed my life when she hired me. I felt an instant connection in our interview and she continued to make me feel valued and special. She encouraged me continuously and helped me grow personally and professionally. Yes Amanda was my boss, but really, she was a friend above all else and I will miss her dearly.

I am so very saddened to learn of Amanda’s passing. We worked together at Hamilton Health Sciences when she was our project manager in hematology. She talked about her family often, especially her sons whom she adored. She always had a funny story to tell about them! She was encouraging, a great listener and an epic problem solver. She will be missed by many and the impacts she has left on health care in Hamilton will be long lasting. I am sending my deepest sympathies
