With heavy hearts and deep sadness, we announce the passing of Anthony “Tony” Aceti, who left us peacefully on Monday, November 17th at Juravinski Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family, at the age of 73.
Tony will be forever missed by his devoted wife, Linda (née DiDomenico), with whom he shared 46 years of marriage. He will be deeply missed by his loving and cherished children, Bianca (Neema) and Leonard (Rouxanne), whom he adored alongside their perfect partners.
Predeceased by his loving parents, Rosina and Leonardo Aceti, his in-laws, Helen and Dominic DiDomenico and brother in-law Rick DiDomencio.
He is survived by his loving and devoted sister, Sylvana Traina and brother-in-law Philip Traina and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Karen and Sam Esposto.
He was the kindest, funniest, and most loving Uncle and Zio to his nieces and nephews, Gabe and Marian Traina, and their sweet son Anthony (his “Buddy and Buddy forever!”), Mark and Krista Traina and their beautifully sweet daughter Natalia (his “Bella”); Vanessa Traina and Sergio Mauricio; Daniel and Kyrstal Esposto and their beautiful boys Dominic and Gabriel, Nick and Jenn Esposto and their super sweet girls Mila and Madison.
Tony loved his family beyond measure. Even more than golf…almost. He cherished his friends like the second family they were. He was loyal and fiercely funny to his childhood friends of 60 years. He was gentle and kind and made friends easily and everywhere - starting with St. Anthony’s CYO, through his love of golf at Glendale Golf Club and Kings Forest, the various Italian Social Clubs in the city, and through his short but sweet sojourn in the world of car sales.
Tony was well- liked and respected by many of the customers and patrons of Aceti’s Restaurant that his parents established in 1966. He proudly carried on the legacy, leading renovations and operations beginning in 1979 until its sale in 2005, when kidney disease forced him to step back. In later years, a kidney transplant gifted him more time-time he filled with travel, laughter, and golf once again.
We would like to send our most heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Azim Gangji and the nephrology team at St. Joseph’s Hospital for their years of exceptional care, dedication, and even efforts to improve his golf game. Sincere thanks as well to the surgeons, doctors, and staff at Juravinski Cancer Centre-with a special acknowledgment to the extraordinarily kind nurses of 3C, who made Tony comfortable in his final days. Your favourite patient has said his final, “I’m good.”
If everyone tried to be as kind and patient as Tony Aceti, the world would be a better place. And in true Tony fashion-his beloved Cowboys won on his final day.
How’s that for a perfect ending.
