It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis on February 2, 2026 at the age of 85 in Joseph Brant Hospital.
Loving husband to Bev (Chagnon) for almost 41 years, proud father to David (Sarah) and Doug (Nicole), his grandchildren Jessica, Jeffery, Brody, Bryanna (Alex), Josh (Judith), Ryan (Sona), Caylee, Tyson and many great-grandchildren. Will be sadly missed by father-in-law Ted Chagnon, brothers-in-law Paul (Karen) & Jim (Kim), sister-in-law Jan (Blair) and their families, and his best buddy, Shuster the cat. Predeceased by his sisters Marian (2024), Patsy (2005), Linda (1947), his Uncle Bill & Aunt Vern Geroux, who raised him from a young age, and mother-in-law Jane Chagnon (2020).
Dennis was a devoted Dad to David and Doug, who have memories of regular hikes at Cootes Paradise, tobogganing at Chedoke Golf Course, drive-ins, camping and Dennis regularly taking them with him to his band parades so they could follow him along the route. Dennis was very active in the boys’ hockey. He volunteered coaching their hockey teams, both in Flamborough and at Dofasco and, when he wasn’t coaching, he loved cheering from the stands and blowing a tune on the bugle when their team scored a goal.
Dennis was born in Victoria Harbour, but most of his younger years were spent in the Hamilton area. In 1956, Dennis started playing music in the RCSCC Lion Cadet Band. He also played in the RHLI Bugle Band, RHLI Veterans’ Bugle Band and Hamilton Firefighters Drum Corps, all of which Bev later joined and played trumpet with him. Dennis was an accomplished lead trumpet player and was requested to play the Last Post at Remembrance Day services over the years. Playing music was a shared love in their marriage where they met many of their life-long friends. Together they joined the Burlington Top Hat Marching Orchestra where they enjoyed parades, trips including Bermuda and New Orleans and performing at numerous events.
Dennis retired in 2003 from Procor. After retirement, in addition to playing in bands, Dennis was a member of the Halton Cross Country Ski Club, the Halton Cycling Club, a Hamilton Tiger Cat season ticket holder and volunteered for several years at the Compassion Society and Burlington Gardens.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Sheila Middlebrook, NP Robin Hinchliffe, Dr. Mahajan, Dr. Sapir, Dr. McPhadden and the 7 South medical staff at Joseph Brant Hospital, all who have contributed to Dennis’ care over the past years. A very special thank you to caregivers Yaneth, Jane, Jahn, Kholoud, Connie and Dorothy.
A visitation will be held at Bay Gardens Funeral Home – Burlington Chapel, 1010 Botanical Drive, Burlington on Friday, February 13, 2026 from 2-6 pm., after which cremation will take place. Interment will take place at a later date at Woodland Cemetery.
