It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Stephen Lee on December 3rd, 2024, peacefully at home surrounded by his family in his 67th year. Beloved husband of 40 years to Lydia. Loving father of Tracie, Kevin and Jacqueline. Loving grandfather of Jolene. Loving brother of Pearl and James. Survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his mother, Chang Sun.
Born in Ottawa and grew up in Morrisburg, Ontario to parents Chang Sun and Wing Bill, Stephen grew up from humble beginnings where his love for cooking and the outdoors began during his early years in the kitchen of his parents’ restaurant and on the St. Lawrence River. Stephen graduated from his Bachelors in Science at the University of Toronto and began his career in dentistry after the completion of his Doctor in Dental Surgery from his Alma Mater in 1986. After a brief retirement in December 2023, he continued to serve his community by joining the Public Health Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph service to work in the Dental Care Program for Low-Income Seniors. Stephen loved being in nature and relished in numerous outdoor activities during his spare time. He was always young at heart.
At the age of 40, he ditched his alpine skis to start snowboarding with his children. Hundreds of falls and bruises never deterred him to master the sport, and he eventually took to the black diamond hills with skill and vigor. He also learned to surf in Tofino, British Columbia with his children at the age of 62, an ode to his wind surfing days in his 20s. Stephen participated in numerous sports, and he travelled a lot with the family and golf buddies. He loved to cook and was always eager to share his fun and food with family and friends, intriguing his company with the exotic food he cooked and the love he put into any social gathering. He was a dedicated clinician and always strived to provide the best care possible for his patients. His family will always remember him as a fun and loving husband and father, who was generous, adventurous, and lived life fully.
Visitation will be held at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 947 Rymal Road East, on Thursday, December 5th, 2024, from 10am-12pm followed by a chapel service in the funeral home at 12pm.
