In Celebration of
Fernando (Fred) Susi
October 23, 1943 -
June 19, 2021
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Fred Susi, on June 19, 2021, while surrounded by his family, in his 78th year.
Fred was a loving husband of 14 years to Teresa, loving father of John (Elaine) Susi, Mark (Trisha) Susi, Carol (Roberto) Giovannangeli, Paul (Kelly) Susi, step-father to Melissa (Eddie) Jurinic, and an adored, wisdom providing and loving grandfather to Michael, Nicholas, Faren, Tiana, Ethan, Caitlin, Braden, Carter, Lincoln, Nathan and, soon to be born, baby Susi.
Fred was predeceased by his parents, Amico and Margherita Susi, loved by his late sister and late brother-in-law Loreta and Ottavio Leone, sister and late brother-in-law Domenica (Sunday) and Dante Tirimacco, his brother and sister-in-law Domenico (Nick) and Rosa Susi, and his brother in-law Antonio Rizzuto and sister-in-law Franca and late Paulo Rizzuto. He will also be fondly remembered by his numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, life-long friends, and especially Sophie.
Born in Pettorano sul Gizio, Italy, Fred immigrated to Canada at the age of ten. He quickly grasped the English language and used it along with his passion to make friends, build relationships and start a life filled with an abundance of joy, accomplishments and success.
Fred gave himself wholly to his children, family and extended family. He loved them very much. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone or provide wise advice to those who asked.
Fred was a model for righteousness as a father, teacher, friend, and administrator. He was also a confidant for teachers and custodial staff, and an advocate for their rights. He was a strong and confident man, served others with humility and was a product of his upbringing from his hard working and loving parents.
Fred had a profound impact on many lives throughout his teaching career beginning at Holy Family, and his administrative years as Principal at Christ the King, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Bernard, St. Brigid, St. Paul and St. Joseph Catholic Elementary Schools. In addition, he also served in the role as OECTA President and Business Agent at LIUNA Local 837.
To all the staff that Fred worked with, at HWCDSB, OECTA and LIUNA Local 837, Fred valued you as friends and colleagues. He always appreciated your commitment to making a difference in his life, in the lives of students, and for Catholic Education.
In his retirement years, he devoted much of his time to serve at the St. Vincent de Paul Society, assisting in a variety of capacities including Treasurer. He was very proud of the work he did to help others especially through his leadership in the creation of the new St. Vincent de Paul Store on 429 Barton St. E., Hamilton.
A sincere and heartfelt thank you to LHIN (especially Tapiwa, nurses Sandy and Marion), St. Elizabeth Homecare, Juravinski Cancer Centre, and the staff at Bob Kemp Hospice. All of your compassionate and loving care for Fred on his journey will be forever remembered.
