In Loving Memory of Natala Imperia Arfuso (Maceri)
It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of Natala Imperia Arfuso (Maceri), who passed away at St. Joseph Hospital on January 23, 2026, at the age of 83 and is now resting in peace.
Imperia was born on June 24, 1942, in Cermaida, Reggio Calabria, Italy, where her strong roots, values, and devotion to family were first formed. In 1971, she made the courageous journey to Canada, where she built a life defined by love, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to her family. She proudly raised her two daughters, and her greatest joy in life was being a mother and grandmother.
After a long and challenging illness, Imperia faced many obstacles with remarkable courage and resilience. She was a brave warrior who fought tirelessly not for herself alone, but because she could not bear the thought of leaving her children and grandchildren. Her strength was rooted in love, and her determination was a true reflection of her selflessness and devotion to family.
Imperia is now reunited with her beloved husband of 47 years, Giuseppe Arfuso, as well as her parents, Domenica Oliverio and Vincenzo Maceri. She was also predeceased by her cherished siblings Rosa, Annunziata, Carmine, and Domenica.
She will be painfully missed but fondly remembered by her loving children, Carmela Merla and son-in-law Matthew and Daniella DiTomaso and son-in-law Paul. She was an incredibly proud and devoted Nonna to her grandchildren, Michaela, Serena, Alessia, and Franco, who were the light of her life and a constant source of joy and purpose.
She will also be lovingly remembered by her brother and sister in laws in Canada and Italy, many cousins, nieces, and nephews in Canada and Italy, as well as Enza, Jason, Anthony, and Gianna (Klae) Masiero in the United States. Imperia was blessed with many precious friendships throughout her life, including the very special bond she shared with John and Rosa Merla, whose love and support meant so much to her. We are eternally thankful for the dedicated care she received at Westmount Terrance Retirement Home and from Dr. Leda Lagrotteria.
Imperia found happiness in the simple pleasures—visiting with friends, sharing coffee and cookies, and watching her beloved Italian soap operas. A gifted and passionate cook, she expressed her love through food. Her traditional Italian meals brought family together around the table, creating memories that will be cherished forever. Through her cooking, she passed down not only treasured recipes, but also her deep belief in the importance of family, togetherness, and tradition.
Imperia will be remembered as an incredibly strong woman, a devoted wife, mother, and proud grandmother whose life was defined by love, perseverance, and generosity of spirit. Her legacy lives on in all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
