It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Indu Jaiswal, who left us on August 29, 2024 at the Carpenter Hospice in Burlington, Ontario. Indu, was born July 16, 1936, in Delhi, India. Indu was a cherished wife, mother, sister, grandmother, friend, and beloved member of our community.
Indu was the daughter of Vidhyavati and Ramlok Sharma who grew alongside her siblings, Sruthikant, Chetna and Vinod. Indu grew in humble circumstances, but worked tirelessly from a young age to become an Operating Room Head Nurse and later, teacher.
Indu pursued her education earning a Master’s degree in Hindi and a nursing degree from Delhi University by the age of 18. Her professional journey began at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi, India where she met the love of her life, Phool Chand Jaiswal. They were married on February 27, 1960. After retirement from nursing, Indu received a Teaching diploma from the University of Regina to aid her life long love of teaching, mentoring and education.
In 1963, their daughter Archana was born in India, and the family moved to Canada in the summer of 1964. Indu continued her studies at the University of Saskatchewan and began working at the University Hospital, in Saskatoon. Their son Arun was born on July 20, 1970 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
The family relocated to Regina in June of 1974, where Indu dedicated 27 years to working at Regina General Hospital as an Operating Room Nurse and Nurse Manager. Her commitment extended beyond her profession; she was actively involved in the community, earning numerous volunteer awards and serving tirelessly as President of the India Canada Association and Principal of the Hindi School and Hindu Samaj (Regina Hindu Temple). A devout Hindu and follower of the Self-Realization Fellowship, Indu was known for her strong Hindu faith, nurturing spirit, boundless generosity, and passion for history and anatomy. Indu was often seen smiling while knitting blankets for her grandchildren.
