With deepest sadness Jack's family announces his passing on Sunday October 27th, 2024, in his 88th year. Cherished and loving husband of the late Helen (Pokoradi). Always a loving and supportive Dad to Lisa and Andrew, dear Father-in-law to Glenda. Forever cherished Grandpa Jack to Amelia, Thomas, and Sara.
Jack was born in Toronto and grew up on a family farm in Picton, Ontario (the "County"). After high school, Jack joined the Canadian Armed Forces where his military career spanned 24 years providing him with the opportunity to live and travel in Europe as well as numerous cities across Canada. Jack retired from the military with the rank of Captain in 1977. At this time Jack and Helen remained in Hamilton to raise their family and be close to extended family. Jack was fortunate to have the opportunity to enjoy a second wonderful career, in the perfect job suited for him, at the Dofasco Employee Recreation Park. In this role he used his gifts to organize and support programs, engage with the employees and their families, and enjoyed working with wonderful colleagues. He retired from Dofasco in 2002.
Jack will be especially missed by sisters Joanne Pierson, Lynne McMahon (Daniel) and his brother Peter, brother-in-laws Jim Morton, Don Pokoradi and Mary. Also lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews and their families.
Jack was predeceased by his sister Marilyn Morton and brother-in- law Ross Pierson.
Jack will be deeply missed by his dear friend Marilyn Johnman and her family.
Jack's circle of support, good times and friendships went beyond family, they included his immediate neighbours, a "Tim Hortons Group” and all who crossed his path and stopped for a chat. Jack’s kindness drew people to him, he loved to talk and was a great listener. Jack loved talks and updates with his Grandchildren, gardening, watching every sport on TV and of course, The Young and the Restless (Y&R).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
Cremation has taken place. A private Interment will be held at Woodland Cemetery.
Celebration of Life will be held at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 947 Rymal Road East, Hamilton on Saturday November 9th from 1 pm to 4 pm.
