In Celebration of

Lena Dimitrenko

July 18, 1959 -  August 1, 2023

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lena Dimitrenko on Monday, August 1, 2023 at the age of 64 after a hard-fought and courageous battle with parathyroid cancer. She is survived by her mother Anna Dimitrenko and her sister Irene Sturgeon, Kingsburg, Nova Scotia. Predeceased by her father Nicholas (d.2009) and favourite brother-in-law Andy (d. 2021). She will be deeply missed by her extended family, many friends and reunited with her favourite dogs.
Lena was a remarkable athlete during high school (Burlington Central High School) and College (Sheridan College). She continued to play basketball and baseball for many years. One of her proudest accomplishments was her involvement with the Burlington International Games as an athlete, coach and executive.

Lena was a kind and caring person who will be remembered for her wonderful smile and genuine interest in others. Her talent, kindness and her zest for life drew a multitude of friends from all walks of life. Lena enjoyed many activities such as creating wonderful culinary delights, traveling, gardening and playing sports. Her sense of humour, fresh flower bouquets, and famous ceasar salad brought smiles and lifted many spirits through the years. She was a big fan of the Hamilton Tiger Cats, Canadian Curling teams and attended many events over the years with friends.

The family would like to express our gratitude to Dr. Dana Pintea and Dr. Sebastien Hotte for their extraordinary care. Also a sincere thank you to the Joseph Brant Palliative Care Team especially Sonya and Jessica for their kindness and compassion to both Lena and the family. Special thanks to Lena's close friends for their support during her illness.

In keeping with Lena's wishes, cremation and a private family service has taken place. There will be a celebration of Lena's life in September. In lieu of flowers donations to the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA or the Burlington Food Bank in Lena's name would be appreciated.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Bay Gardens Funeral Home, Burlington ON.

I send my deepest sympathy in this time of sorrow. The Bible gives a comforting hope and promises that your loved one will soon live again in a peaceful paradise earth when death is no more. (John 5:28, 29; Revelation 21:4)

Lena’s friendly disposition and genuine spirit was always such a joy to be around. We shared many laughs and life stories/and trials on the GO train originally, then outside our commutes. A love for our pups was shared and passion for sports.

Extending condolences to her family & all who knew her. She’ll be missed and always admired.
