In Celebration of

Madeline Marie Ricci

January 7, 1946 -  December 8, 2021

With heavy hearts and profound sadness we announce the passing of Madeline, our loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend to all whose lives she touched, on Wednesday December 8th 2021.

She will be dearly missed and forever in the hearts of her adoring husband Joseph Ricci of 53 years. A devoted, compassionate and loving mother of Elyse (Tony), Marisa (Mike), Marc, Joel (Carla) and Kara. Dearly loved and admired grandmother to Michaela, Luca, Adrian, Anthony, Sofia, Ella, Matteo, Noah, Savannah, Gabriel, Alexa and Nicholas. “When you look into your mother’s eyes, you know that is the purest love you can find on this earth.”

She was the loving daughter of the late Aldo and Inez Moro and sister to Linda Ferrie and John Moro. She will be sorely missed by her nieces, nephews, cousins, dearest friends and past colleagues and students.

Madeline began teaching at the elementary level but found her true passion teaching ESL at St. Charles Centre in the HWCDSB. She taught for many years and had a profound and lasting impact on her students, many of whom were very recent arrivals to Canada. Her care and sincerity to her students made her more than a teacher to them as she supported them in all facets of their lives. Madeline saw each student as, “a raw but precious thing, a jewel that, with wisdom, could be polished to a proud shine.” It was this that epitomized Madeline.

One of mom’s greatest gift to us was her appreciation for fine foods. Her vast collection of cookbooks and recipes were used to spread joy at the family table. No ingredient was ever spared as she would travel to the edges of the world for ingredients to ensure that the recipe was prepared to perfection.

Madeline enjoyed a good debate, always collecting and sourcing many tidbits of facts, quotes and opinions to present her side. Being an avid reader enabled her to share nuggets of wisdom with her family and friends.

A sincere thank you to the wonderful and caring staff at Juravinski Hospital. To Dr. Walker and Hematology C4 and ODS nurses and staff along with Dr. Lim, for their exemplary care and compassion over the past four years.

Madeline’s elegance, witty humour, beauty and grace will be forever with us. Family and friends will be received on Monday, December 13th at Bay Gardens, 947 Rymal Road East from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral mass will take place at Regina Mundi Parish on Tuesday, December 14th at 10:00 am. Entombment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Madeline’s memory to Regina Mundi Parish and Juravinski Hospital, Hematology C4.

“With brave wings she flies”
