In Celebration of

Martha Ann Slaght (nee Meyer)

September 2, 1954 -  August 28, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Martha Slaght. Martha passed away on August 28 at the Juravinski Hospital.

As a family, we are devastated and heartbroken by Martha’s untimely passing. She was the glue that kept our family and extended family together, and we will miss her forever.

Martha was the cherished wife of Bob for 47 years and proud mother of Rob (Maria), and Jeffery (who passed away shortly after birth in 1977), the energetic and playful Gramma of six-year-old Maxwell and “dog mom” to her precious Westie Weston.

Martha was predeceased by her parents John and Edith Meyer; and was the youngest sibling of Mona Inglis (Tom); Mabel Livingstone; and Ed Meyer (Kathleen); and an aunt to their children.

Martha was also predeceased by her in-laws Earl and Margaret Slaght; and her sister-in-law and best friend Sharon Johnson (Henry). She was a dear aunt to Sean (Ashley), Jamie (Eric), Michael (Anna); cousin to Brenda and Tom; and a lifelong friend along with her husband Bob to Tom and Joanne Perry.

Martha was a 48-year employee of the Henderson Hospital / Juravinski Hospital where she worked as a Registered Nurse from graduation in 1975 to 2023. She will be greatly missed by her co-workers from 395, 396, Emergency, Recovery and the Surgical Centre.

As a family we will always cherish the memories of traveling to Disney World, Hilton Head Island, as well as countless cruises, the Caribbean, Peru and numerous destinations throughout the USA. Martha was a brilliant cook, incredible hostess, and always worked at a frenetic pace to make Christmases, Thanksgivings and birthdays memorable for the entire family.

Martha, we love you, and we will never forget the impact you have had on our lives. Your grandson Maxwell will grow up to know what an amazing person his Gramma was. You will always remain in our hearts and will never be forgotten.

Martha's Memorial Service will be held at Bay Gardens Funeral Home - "William J. Markey Chapel", 947 Rymal Road East, Hamilton (905.574.0405) on Wednesday, September 6th at 11:00 a.m. Cremation has taken place.

We were so very sorry to learn of Martha’s sudden passing. Martha and Weston stopped often at our home while she and Weston were out for a walk in the neighbourhood. The sight of Martha being “pulled” up the street when Weston would spot our open garage door and knew that he would get a treat always made us smile. We truly enjoyed these opportunities to chat with Martha. She was smart and kind and had a great sense of humour and we will miss her.

It saddens us to know we have lost a great friend. She was caring, protective, funny and always ready to greet you with a smile or a funny story. She will be remembered by all the friends from baseball, basketball, golf and curling. We will all miss her.
Our thoughts, prayers and love are with her family.
