In Celebration of

Richard Michal "Rick" Rudy

May 31, 1976 -  August 3, 2022

Rick tragically left us too swiftly after being diagnosed with cancer only weeks before his passing. With unimaginable sorrow and much love, we mourn an amazing father, husband, and friend.

Rick will be lovingly remembered by his wife Martina and his daughter Veronika; his parents Ela and Zbyszek; his siblings Jan (Magda), Renata (Evan), and Adrian; his mother-in-law Karen, his brother-in-law Ken (Dorothy) and his nieces and nephews; along with many relatives, friends and colleagues. He joins his father John at rest.

Rick was a wonderful and generous soul who would do anything to help someone in need. He had a kind, understanding heart, a positive outlook on life and a love for adventure. He adored becoming a devoted dad to Veronika and made sure they spent lots of time together, whether it was going camping, taking day trips to Toronto, or just walking to school.

Rick brought that same curiosity and generosity of spirit to his studies at the University of Waterloo, Humber College and George Brown College, and later to his work in graphic design and web development. If he didn’t know how to do something, he set about learning to do it. He pursued his goals with passion and diligence-when a project came down to the wire, Rick could bail you out of a tricky situation. Rick was also an amazing teacher and patient when explaining concepts to colleagues using analogies. He volunteered at Ladies Learning Code events, and spoke at and helped to organize many WordPress events.

Rick was a great friend to many and widely shared his love of music, BBQ and cooking. He will be missed by so many people from so many walks of life-not least of which by his wife and daughter, who considered him their everything.

Rick’s family and friends will celebrate his beautiful life through a memorial service at Bay Gardens Funeral Home (invitation only).

The family requests no flowers. If you would like to honour Rick’s memory, please make a donation in his name to the Canadian Cancer Society. We also invite you to share your memories of Rick below.

I have many wonderful memories of Rick. Eating his amazing BBQ, drinking his fancy coffee and eating his homemade salsa (I also have non food related memories!). Camping with him and his ear buds! He was a wonderful patient friend to my kids father and a really comfortable presence to be around. He was also a wonderful, devoted Dad to Veronika and was just as patient with everyone else's kids. It's really unfair that he died so young and so suddenly and I'm really sorry for your loss.
