In Celebration of

Ruth (Birute) Frances Berzaitis

October 16, 1957 -  January 2, 2023

Passed away in hospital after a brief illness in her 66th year on January 2, 2023. Ruth will be profoundly missed by her sisters Anneli, Donna, Rita, niece Erika (Lee), goddaughter Audrey, and many cousins in Canada, America and abroad. Ruth is predeceased by her parents Emil and Eugenia, brothers Richard and Edward and brother-in-law, John. Hamilton born and bred, Ruth first began employment at the John Howard society. From there, she enjoyed an extremely gratifying and fulfilling thirty plus year career in the Ministry of Correctional Services (Probation & Parole) and Ministry of Children and Youth Services. Ruth loved to help people and her calm and supportive approach was appreciated by all. In her younger active days in the Lithuanian community, Ruth travelled to Europe, South America and Australia. This led to a life-long love of travel and adventure to places such as Lithuania, Central America, Alaska, the Caribbean and the Rockies. A huge supporter of the Olympics, Ruth cheered endlessly for Team Canada and the Lithuanian basketball team. Most of all, Ruth loved children. She was often the unofficial auntie to her friends’ children. Ruth’s kindness, gentleness, thoughtfulness and generosity were hallmark traits of her personality. We will truly miss our sister, aunt, cousin, godmother and friend.

Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 1010 Botanical Drive, Burlington, on Sunday January 8th from 2 p.m. – 7 p.m. A private family burial is to take place at a later date.

If so desired, donations in Ruth’s memory may be made to the Lithuanian Children’s Relief Fund or any children’s charity of choice.

Birute visada turejo šypsena kai būdavome bažnyčioje. Tegul Dievas priima tuoj pat į dangų kaip šeimos, draugu ir bendruomenes Angela. Tegul ilsis ramybėje. Amen.

Dear Family and friends, My fondest memories of Birute are from singing together in "Aidas ". We sat together during in the alto section. She had an amazing ear and alto voice. We had inside jokes and made each other smile onstage pinching each other. We loved to travel to new cities to perform and had fun touring new places, meeting new friends. She had a great sense of humour.
We also spent time together in ateitininkai, and Lithuanian school. Our parents were friends and my late mother, Marija Siulys, was her Godmother. We gathered together for birthdays and other events.
Dearest Birute, we lost touch over the years, but you leave an imprint on my heart and life. My you rest in eternal peace.
