It is with very heavy hearts and sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather Antonios (Doneʹ) Antoniadis (aka Danny the Barber) at the age of 89 on Sunday February 22nd, 2026. Antonios died peacefully surrounded by his family in Carthage, where he continued to live with his son Greg and his family after the passing of his beloved wife Niki. Antonios was born in Amindeo, Greece on March 3rd, 1936. He leaves behind his children Fanny (Larry), Robert, Greg (Gillian), Niki (John) and Dino (Sandra) and is now watching over his cherished Grandchildren George, Julia, Bobby, Bronwyn, Avery, Ryan, Johnnie, Nikolas, David and Lucas.
Antonios was predeceased by his parents, Fanka and Goce Antoniadis and his siblings Tasho, Lena, Vasa. He is survived by his sister Agapi. Antonios will be fondly remembered by many other family members and friends. He positively influenced the lives of many and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. May the flame of his memory burn eternally in our hearts.
The legacy began by a chance meeting at a wedding back on September 13th, 1953, when Antonios met the love of his life; Niki Papaioannou and the rest is history. He immigrated to Canada in 1956 (to Hamilton) and married Niki in December of that same year and their story together officially commenced. He truly worshipped Niki throughout their married life and together they worked hard to build a home, a loving family (they raised 5 children), and built their dream house on 54 acres in Cambridge where they moved to in 1974 and remained there until very recently. He loved nature and cherished his walks through his forested property, trying to instill the same love of the outdoors in anyone that honoured his wish to join him for a walk.
Antonios was a barber by trade, opening his first business in Hamilton in 1957 and ultimately relocating to Cambridge where he became a mainstay and focal point in the community. “Danny the Barber” as he was affectionately known was renowned for his general knowledge, wit, kind heart and giving nature. His love for meaningful conversation on varying topics and friendships along with his support of charitable organizations were immense and as a result he became a highly decorated and respected member of the Cambridge Business Community. His accomplishments were many and all were impactful. Antonios was very proud of his heritage and even more proud to be a Canadian and his Barbershop décor was testimony to that. Every piece was a conversation starter! He would relish these discussions and take his time with each and every one of them. In fact, he would tell his clients, that if they were in a hurry that they should come back tomorrow… He was a man of principle and high moral fibre who never took short cuts. He was a spiritual, God fearing and genuine human being and was always deep in high level thought.
Antonios was a very special person that had a zest for life and lived for his family (especially his grandchildren). He is finally reunited with his wife and the love of his life Niki, in a better place.
“First Love and Last Love”
We miss you Papou Doneʹ.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Listowel Memorial Hospital Foundation or Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
