With heavy hearts but comforted by our faith in God and the promise of eternal life, we announce the peaceful passing of Giovanni Sorrenti, surrounded by the love of his family, at his daughter's home in Princeton, Ontario, on Monday, May 18, 2026, at the age of 89.
Beloved husband of Rosaria for 65 beautiful years, Giovanni was a devoted family man whose greatest joy in life was the people gathered around his table. He leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, faith, laughter, and deep devotion to family.
Giovanni is now reunited in Heaven with beloved parents, Domenico and Domenica Sorrenti, his brother Vincenzo, his cherished daughter Rita, and his precious great-grandbaby Lillian.
Loving father to Domenica (Leo Singer), Vincenzo Sorrenti, Maria (Bill Petrik), and Carla Sorrenti (Stephen Cowie) Proud and devoted Nonno to Joseph (Brittany Singer), Adam, Sabrina (Claudio Moreira), Johnny (Morgan Singer), Garret McCoy (Brittany Marquardt), Marina McCoy (Gerard Demeulenaere), Brigitt (Andrew Jury), Baileigh (Tyler D’Angelo), and Christopher Sorrenti. Adored Great-Nonno to Khole, Kayden, Elora, Elaina, Theon, Wylder, Maizie, Emmett, and Ellie.
Giovanni is survived by his dear siblings Giuseppe (Teresa Sorrenti), Concetta & the late Massimo Berrettoni, Lina (Michele Niesi), and Rosa & the late Pasquale Galamini. He will also be deeply missed by many extended family members, lifelong friends, neighbors, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Giovanni had a deep love for the outdoors and found his greatest peace at his beloved cottage. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening, and foraging for wild foods along the roadside — often turning a short drive into a full-day adventure because he could never pass by something nature had provided. He appreciated the simple gifts of life: fresh food, good conversation, a glass of homemade wine, cold beer or doing shots with family and friends.
His cottage door and table were always open. Giovanni welcomed everyone warmly — neighbours, old friends, newcomers, young and old alike — always encouraging one more plate of food, one more story, and one more visit. He had a gift for making people feel at home and cared for. The memories made around his table will remain treasured in the hearts of all who knew him.
A man of strong Catholic values, Giovanni carried quiet strength, deep love for his family, and gratitude for life’s blessings. His family takes comfort knowing he has now been called home to the Lord and reunited with those he loved who went before him.
A public visitation will be held on Thursday, May 21st, 2026, from 11:00am - 1:00pm at Bay Gardens Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish. Entombment to take place at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Giovanni’s memory may be made to the St. Elizabeth Foundation in honour of the compassionate at-home care that allowed him to remain surrounded by the love of his family. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all the PSWs, nurses, doctors, caregivers, and private care providers who cared for Giovanni with such kindness, dignity, compassion, and excellence. https://foundation.sehc.com/donate/
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude for the love, prayers, compassion, and support shown during this difficult time. Giovanni’s love and presence will remain forever in our hearts.
