Maddalena, Giovanni “John Michael”
October 2, 1992
January 17, 2026
It is with overwhelming sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John Michael (Giovanni Michele) Maddalena in his home, on Saturday, January 17th, 2026, at the age of 33. John Michael left us all, unexpectedly, due to a myocardial infarction. Our family is devastated.
He was the beloved and cherished son of Michael and Suzy Maddalena. The fierce and loved brother Jackie (Nino), Gabbie (Marcus) and Jonathan (Elsy). A loving grandson of Maria Tavares, and the late Giovanni and Caterina Maddalena. John Michael was much loved by many uncles and aunts including Tony (Kathy) (Late Debbie) Maddalena, Renata (Edward) Duncan, Angela (Joe) Monachino, and Connie (Late Carlo Gioia) Da Costa. He will be missed by his many cousins, including Christina (Tomer): Chantal (sister) (Mark, Makenna, Bianca), Victoria (Angelina, Josephine), Rose (Nick, Maddalena, Theodore), Catherine, Christina, Amanda (Billy, Zac, Alessia, John Carlo), and missed by many, many friends.
Anyone who had the blessing of knowing John Michael, could attest to the incredible loving and caring demeanor, kindness and gentle nature he had. He was the best person and brought that quality out in everyone naturally. He was our “resident gentle giant”, and to have known him was a privilege, and an honour. He made everyone that knew him a better person. His passion, his joy, and his love, for his life, was always for his family and friends. His dedication and devotion to them all was unending.
We will never be able to express the huge loss and emptiness left behind by John Michael’s passing. Everyone loved John Michael with his contagious laugh and smile. He was an incredible business partner to his father at Maddalena Contracting. Football was always a big part of his life, whether he was an athlete, coach, or spectator. John Michael loved his Steelers, watching games with his dad on weekends, and taking trips to watch them in person together.
We will always miss John Michael and will never forget him or the wonderful memories he gave to each of us in such a tragically shortened lifetime.
