It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the death of John Piccoli on March 19th. He passed away peacefully, while surrounded by his adoring family.
Loving and devoted husband of 35 years to the love of his life, Carmela (née Rizzo). Cherished and adoring father of Michael, David, and wife Erica (née Casali). Proud Nonno of three grandsons: Nixson, Jones, and Dexter. Best friend of the family dog Ringo.
Beloved son of Tina and the late Pietro Piccoli. Dear brother of Rosanna and Rick DiGiandomenico and Marilena and Tony Castagna. Uncle John will be missed by his nephew and four nieces. Son in law of the late Giovanna and Nicolò Rizzo.
To his core, John was principled and exemplified humility and grace. Though he was a man of few words, those closest to him understood and truly appreciated his humour, love, and enthusiasm for life. John lived each day to the fullest, knowing tomorrow was never guaranteed. His intelligence, ambition, and determination allowed him to succeed in all that he pursued: his family, career, world travels and sports. He worked tirelessly to improve himself and expand his knowledge, maintaining a genuine curiosity about the world around him. As an avant-garde thinker, lifelong learner, and adventurous spirit, John enthusiastically travelled the world. He meticulously planned each journey, packing the itinerary with opportunities to experience and learn about new cultures and cuisines. He was proud to say that the only continent he had not visited with his wife was Antarctica.
John had a deep love for food, always embracing a wide variety of cuisines from around the world. He was passionate about health and fitness and enjoyed playing and watching sports, especially his Buffalo Bills. He loved live music and always danced like no one was watching, never afraid to put himself out there. John came alive with his grandsons; they were the apples of his eye. He cherished every moment spent with them, entertaining and playing with them until his last breath. John leaves an indelible mark on us, and we will never forget his motto: “Work hard and play harder”.
In retirement, John pursued his lifelong dream of being on vacation year-round by moving to the quaint and picturesque city of Port Colborne. Surrounded by Lake Erie and the beautiful canal, he enjoyed the stunning sunrises and sunsets, nature’s fresh air, and new friends with shared old-fashioned values.
During his brief battle with cancer, he fought with determination and courage. Despite the unfortunate circumstances, he never complained, choosing optimism instead. In his final days he showed unwavering bravery.
Our family is extremely grateful for the overwhelming outpouring of love and support from family and friends throughout this difficult time. Please consider donating to Canadian Cancer Society or any charity supporting children, who always brought him so much joy.
