In Celebration of

John William Costie

October 5, 1954 - January 13, 2026

John William passed away at his home in Waterford, ON; in his 72nd year. Born in Hamilton, ON, and raised in Ancaster, ON. He was affectionately known as “Johnny” to his large Costie Family, consisting of his five siblings, many Aunts & Uncles, Cousins, Nieces & Nephews, as well as, friends spread across Southern Ontario.

He will be sadly missed by his brothers and sisters – Laura (David) Jorgenson, Mark Costie (Caren Schaefer), Diana Atkins (Stephen Durber), Gordon (Susan) Costie, and Brian (Adelle) Costie. Predeceased by his parents; Hugh John - September 4, 2022 and Joan Roberta (nee Caldwell) – July10, 2022.

Johnny was a talented Plumber by trade who could solve and fix anything using his decades of skills acquired as a professional tradesman. He later worked with his Dad at HJC Plumbing Sales, Hagersville, ON. Johnny was instrumental in organizing and selling plumbing parts as plumbing sales ran deep within the Costie Family; beginning with the Master Plumber’s Products business on King William Street in Hamilton, ON.

As an avid outdoorsman, Johnny loved the great outdoors and fishing. He would share this passion with his brother Gord and accompany him on many fishing trips into the interior of Algonquin Provincial Park and Ice Fishing on Lake Simcoe.

In his later years, Johnny lived a simple life and enjoyed watching classic black & white movies and became a movie enthusiast, knowing all of the actors’ names. He was always aware of current events happening in the world. It didn’t matter whether it was about news, sports, politics, he could converse with you about any topic. Johnny was a lifelong Montreal Canadians Fan. In his sport playing years, he adored wearing number 13, long before it was adopted by professional athletes. It is not lost on any of us that his passing occurred on his favourite number which was very serendipitous.

Johnny’s final resting place will be in Waterford Greenwood Cemetery, Waterford, ON, where he will be reunited with his mother and father.

As per Johnny’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in the spring of 2026.
