Joyce Ada Rowett (nee Wood)

It is with profound sadness that the Family of Joyce A. Rowett announces her passing on Sunday, August 3, 2025.
In her 96th year, Joyce will be reunited with her predeceased and loving husband Fred who passed away on February 18, 1994, her parents Albert and Ada Wood, brother Albert and sisters Shirley, June and Ruth.
Joyce will be deeply mourned by many close friends and family. She leaves behind sons Ron (Jane) Wilson, Jeffrey Haydon and brothers Ken and Steve (Sue).
She was an adoring Mother, Wife, Sister, Sister-in-Law, Aunt and Great Aunt to many nieces and nephews plus numerous cousins.
Joyce was born the second of seven children in Hamilton, Ontario. Upon completing high school in 1948, Joyce immediately began working full-time. She had a lengthy office career in company administration and bookkeeping at Sharpe Brothers Cut Stone as well as Levitt & Sons Ltd.- Canadian Iron and Metal Company.
A natural athlete, Joyce enjoyed playing softball, basketball, bowling, golf and swimming along with joining friends and family in games of euchre. An avid bowler for her entire life, Joyce bowled a Perfect Game of 5-pin bowling on April 26, 1950 at The Parkview Bowling alley. For many years, Joyce and her husband Fred would participate in 10-pin bowling leagues at Skyway Bowl in Hamilton and travel to tournaments in Canada and the United States. In recognition of her tireless volunteer contributions, in 1996, Joyce was inducted into the Hamilton- Wentworth Bowling Association (H.W.B.A) Hall of Fame.
She was a member of St. James the Apostle Anglican church from the time she was born until the church closed in 2004. An avid gardener, she would spend countless hours in her garden cultivating flowers and growing tomatoes. In her later years to stay fit, Joyce would swim a mile, three times per week, at the YM-YWCA pool on Ottawa Street in Hamilton’s East End before it closed for renovations in 2017.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be hosted at Bay Garden’s Funeral home, 1010 Botanical Drive, Burlington with visitation starting at 10am, a Memorial Service taking place on Thursday August 21st at 11:00am in the funeral home chapel, followed by an inurnment at Woodland Cemetery on 700 Spring Garden's Road.
