In Celebration of

June Marie Schwecke

June 3, 1940 - January 8, 2023

June Marie Schwecke (nee Chappel), aged 82, passed peacefully on January 8, 2023 at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington, Ontario. She was born on June 3, 1940 in Minesing, Ontario, to Elizabeth and Stewart Chappel. On September 9, 1960 she married Heinz Otto Julius Schwecke in Barrie, Ontario where they spent many adventurous years until moving to Burlington in April 2021. She was a dear wife, mother, and friend who had a zest for life and a talent for making friends wherever she went. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

June was a devoted wife to Heinz for 62 years and a loving mother to Stefan Karl Heinz Schwecke, Angela Schwecke, and Kristen Melanie Schwecke and a cherished mother-in-law to Vincenzo Lepera. She was a beloved grandmother to Victoria Angela Lepera. She is survived by her sister Ilene Crawford and brother-in-law Tim Crawford. June was the dear sister of the late Barbra Bernice Mckenzie and late brother-in-law John Mckenzie, late brother Robert Thomas Chappel, and late sister-in-law Melanie Hertel and late brother-in-law Karl Hertel.

June was a proud volunteer for the Girl Guides of Canada for 16 years, 11 as a Troop Leader and 5 as District Commissioner. For many years she was active in the dog community, starting and running the not-for-profit Barrie Dog Obedience school. Later in life June joined a dancing group and learned to tap dance. The group performed in community halls, hospitals and competed at Roy Thompson Hall. She loved to travel with her husband Heinz, together, or with other couples, seeing Canada, US, and Europe.

June was cremated on January 13, 2023 in a private ceremony with arrangements entrusted to the Bay Gardens Funeral Home in Burlington, Ontario. If you so desire, the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Cancer Society.

A Celebration of the Lives of Heinz and June Schwecke will take place on Sunday, June 18, 2023, 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Barrie Golf and Country Club. Please RSVP to kschwecke@hotmail.com and aschwecke@hotmail.com.
