We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Leon, who left us at the age of 71. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Beloved husband of 46 years to Christine (née Dziwota), Leon was a devoted father to Jason (Lilly) and Halina, and a proud Dziadzia to Luna and Skyler, who brought him endless joy.
He will be dearly missed by his brother Richard (Sofie) Chrapala and sister Teresa (Juris) Makarewicz, sister-in-law Marta (Gabe) Smiarowski and mother-in-law Janina Dziwota. Uncle Leo will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews; Adam, Alana, Leah, Michael, Tolek, Kazimir, Misha, extended family and many dear friends, whom will all remember his warmth and kindness.
Leon is reunited in peace with his parents, Olek and Janina Chrapala, and his father-in-law Marian Dziwota.
After 39 dedicated years as a pipefitter at Dofasco, Leon enjoyed a well-earned retirement which he filled with his passions for cars, football, fishing, gardening, cooking, and was known as a BBQ master. Above all, he treasured time with his family, friends and fur buddies. His gentle spirit and love for simple moments will always be remembered.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 2–5 p.m. at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 947 Rymal Rd E, Hamilton. Guests are invited to wear bright colours, especially red, in honour of Leon.
The family extends their gratitude to the ICU (level 0) staff at Juravinski Hospital for their compassionate care and support during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hamilton Health Sciences or a charity of your choice.
