It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our cherished mother and nonna, Maria Luongo, who died peacefully at her home surrounded by her devoted family in her 95th year. Born in Mirabella Eclano, Italy, Maria carried her warmth, strength, and traditions with her throughout her life.
Maria will be fondly missed by her loving family, especially her daughter Marie (Mike) Memmolo, her son Frank (Mary) Luongo, and her grandchildren Diana (Joseph), Laura (Angelo), Michael (Sara), Lisa Marie (Marcus), and Carley (Brendan).
Nonnina will be dearly missed by her loving great-grandchildren Ariana, Amara, Mira, Mateo, Mila, Domenico, Olivia, Adrian, and Bennett.
She was predeceased by her mother Teresa Martiniello; her siblings Francesca (Alessandro) and Luigi (Emilia); her in-laws Francesco and Nunziata; and her brother-in-law Antonio. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Carmela Luongo.
Maria will be greatly missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends. She was the heart of her family — quiet and gentle by nature, with a selfless spirit that always placed the needs and happiness of others before her own. Her love was soft yet unwavering, felt in every sacrifice she made, and in the comfort, she brought to those around her.
Maria found immense joy intending to her beautiful garden and spending time in her kitchen. She showed her love through cooking and baking, always sharing her delicious taralli and famous veal cutlets with family and friends. Nothing made her happier than having her family gathered around her kitchen table, enjoying a meal she had prepared. She truly lived for her great-grandchildren, who brought endless light and happiness to her life.
Her warmth reached far beyond her own family. Maria was lovingly known as “Nonna” to all the children on Tamarack Place, where her kindness, watchful eye, and gentle presence made every child feel cared for and safe.
She will remain forever in our hearts and will always be remembered for the love, care, and devotion she gave to us all.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Rebecca, whose compassion and devoted care brought comfort to our Nonna in her final days.
