Born in Myrina on the beautiful island of Lemnos, Greece, Markos was the son of the late Matheos and Styliani Psarakis. He grew up working alongside his father on the family farm, where he developed a lifelong love of the land and gardening.
At the age of 26, Markos boarded a ship to Canada and then arriving by train at Liuna Station. His early years in Canada were marked with sacrifice and determination, as his first goal was to work hard and support his family back home in Greece.
He soon returned to Lemnos to marry the love of his life, Ployxeni, on a beautiful sunny day. Together they began a remarkable 63-year marriage of raising four children and building a home filled with warmth, laughter, and faith.
Markos was a proud and dedicated member of LIUNA Local 837 for 60 years. He contributed to many major Hamilton landmarks, including the Jolly Cut and the Burlington Skyway. Known in his neighbourhood as “Marko the Painter”, he was a trusted handyman and generous neighbour, always ready to lend a hand.
During summers spent in Lemnos, he lovingly sponsored and organized a special Divine Liturgy each year at the Ayios Zacharias Chapel, a cherished gathering that brought family and friends together in prayer and celebration.
Markos was a man of philotimo and true philoxenia. With Polyxeni as the devoted chef, he would proudly set out a full table, insisting that everyone sit together and enjoy good food, laughter, and each other’s company.
Markos lived a life defined by quiet strength, integrity, generosity, and deep love for his family.
