It is with profound sadness and endless love, we announce the passing of Richard Adusei Opoku (aka Shatta, Paa Kwame) at the age of 42 on April 29th, 2026. Born in Accra, Ghana. He came to Canada at a young age with his family. A beloved husband & best friend to Crystal for over 20 years, and a cherished family member to so many.
A loyal friend and a man whose presence brought strength, laughter, and comfort to those around him. He made life better for everyone. Richard was a man of quiet resilience. He faced life’s tremendous challenges with the utmost courage & dignity. Even through difficult seasons he continued to show up for us all, love on us and put others before himself. He never wavered in his faith. His strength is unmatched. Richard dedicated his working life to serving the public through healthcare, helping others through this work for over 15 years, just as he did in his personal life. Caring for us all is what he did best. He was such a planner and man of service you may have encountered his efforts via his coordination of the soccer tournaments, his biggest looser competitions at work, his help with planning events and supporting others during their funerals and life events. His community savings program helped many put their kids through school and buy their first homes. He always wanted to help and see others do well. He wanted us all to win. All who knew him would definitely know he was a devoted Arsenal supporter. Whether watching the match, talking football or coaching. The game of football brought him joy. Richard was everyone’s Favorite Coach, Favorite Uncle, and Number One Supporter - full of passion, leadership, and heart. Though our hearts are broken and forever changed, we are grateful for every moment we had with him. We are at peace that he is no longer in pain and suffering. Let Richards legacy be one of love, service, and courage. Go forth in your lives and do the hard things, keep watch over each other, check in with your friends, neighbour's and serve those around you in your communities.
