It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Venera Chiofalo (née Montecristo), who passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.

Born on April 18, 1941, in Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, Sicily, Venera came to Canada with her husband, Antonio, in 1964, where she built a life centered on family, faith, and tradition. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister whose love for her family was constant and unwavering.

Venera will be remembered for her deep love for her family, her kindness, her strength, and the beautiful traditions she kept alive through the years. She cherished Sunday lunches, when her kitchen became the heart of the home. An exceptional cook, she expressed her love through food and was especially known for her meatballs and veal cutlets, dishes that brought comfort and joy to those she loved.

She also found joy in life’s quieter moments, whether crocheting and knitting with care and patience, or attending church every week with her husband, a reflection of the deep faith that guided her life.

She was predeceased by her brother, Giuseppe Montecristo; her sisters-in-law, Francesca and Franca; and her brother-in-law, Mariano.

She will be profoundly missed by her beloved husband of 61 years, Antonio Chiofalo; her loving children, Nancy and her husband Peter Filice, Carmelina and her husband Siu-Kei Chung, and Carmen; her cherished grandchildren, Lauren and Kristen; her beloved brothers, Tony Montecristo, and Pietro Montecristo of Italy, and their families; her dear brothers-in-law, Miggo and Tindero, both of Italy, and their families; her niece, Melinda Montecristo, and her family; her nephew, Sam Montecristo, and his family; as well as many cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.


Visitation will be held at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 947 Rymal Road East, Hamilton, on Monday, April 20, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at Annunciation of Our Lord Parish, 280 Limeridge Road West, Hamilton, on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery.



Venera’s love, traditions, and gentle spirit will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
