It is with deep love and profound sadness that the family of Dr. Edward Raymond “Ted” Dinniwell announce his passing on November 21, 2025, at the age of 87. Ted was the beloved son of Dr. Albert Raymond Dinniwell and Beatrice Elizabeth Dinniwell, and the brother of Dianne and husband Dr. Klaus Kaiser. He grew up on the east mountain near Concession Street, a neighborhood that shaped his early years and later became the centre of his professional and community life.
Ted attended high school in Hamilton before pursuing dentistry at the University of Toronto, graduating from the Faculty of Dentistry in 1962. That same year, he established his dental practice on Concession Street, where he provided compassionate, meticulous care to generations of patients from 1962 to 2008. His calm manner, gentle humour, and unwavering professionalism earned him the trust and gratitude of countless families.
While attending a dance at McMaster University, Ted met Dorcas Ann Morgan, who became his lifelong companion and partner in all things. They married in 1965, beginning a marriage of six decades built on love, mutual respect, and quiet joy.
Ted was the loving father of Robert Edward (Julie) and David Arthur (Alison), a proud and devoted grandfather to Kate, Graham, Evan, and Grace, and an uncle to Edward and Andrew. He was also a great-uncle to Tessa, Nora, Sam, and Max. He followed their lives with delight, eager to celebrate their milestones and nurture their curiosities.
A man of wide-ranging interests and passions, Ted had a love of learning, puzzles, chess, and bridge. He was an avid naturalist and dedicated bird watcher, active for many years with the Hamilton Naturalists’ Club, the Bruce Trail Association, and the Royal Botanical Gardens. He looked forward each year to the Boxing Day Bird Count, participating faithfully until the onset of his illness.
Scouter Ted was also deeply committed to Scouts Canada. As a young man, he was part of the 26th Hamilton Scout Group, and as an adult he continued to give back as an assistant leader and later Scout Master with the 81st Hamilton Scout Group. His leadership, patience, and enthusiasm for the outdoors inspired many youth and strengthened his lifelong appreciation for nature, mentorship, and community service.
He enjoyed reading, genealogy, and staying engaged with current events, and Ted was known among family and friends for his sharp wit, fondness for puns and jokes, and gentle wisdom. His life was rich in friendships, service, and quiet moments of reflection.
Ted will be remembered for his kindness, integrity, and the curiosity that animated every chapter of his life. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton — including the Emergency Department, ICU, Medical and Surgical teams, nursing staff, and allied health professionals — for their exceptional care and unwavering compassion.
The family also wishes to express their deep appreciation to Joanna, whose support and companionship over the summer and fall brought comfort, dignity, and joy to Ted’s days — especially during their cherished games of dominoes. Their sincere thanks as well to Julie T, whose kindness and care were constant support.
