It is with deep love and profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved husband, father, and papa, Frank (Napoleon) Durand, in his 87th year. Frank passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 13th surrounded by the love of his family — just as he had lived his life, with his heart full and his loved ones close by. Frank leaves behind his devoted wife and best friend of 62 years, Ellen (née Aitchison), with whom he shared a lifetime of laughter, devotion, and unwavering companionship. He is predeceased by his dear sister Elise McKnight (Vince). He will be forever loved and deeply missed by his children Anita (John), Paul (Paula), Stephen (Yvonne), and Allison (Steve), who will carry his lessons, humor, and gentle strength in their hearts always. His cherished grandchildren — Katerina (Greg), Matthew (Jessica), Joshua, Megan, Colin, Andrew, Claire, and Ryan and predeceased granddaughter Elizabeth— will forever remember their “Papa” for his warmth and the endless pride he took in each of them.
Frank dedicated many years of hard work as a laborer at True Temper, later continuing his commitment and care with the HWCDSB. Known for his strong work ethic and humble spirit, he touched many lives through his kindness and quiet generosity. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Frank’s heart belonged to the Toronto Maple Leafs and Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and he cherished his years playing hockey with the Hamilton Old Tymers and his Twentyplace Golfing crew — friendships and memories he held dear throughout his life. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Amie Davis, palliative nurse Sondra, PSW Jolanda and PSW Hannah for their exceptional compassion, care, and kindness in his final days.
A Memorial Visitation will take place on Wednesday November 19, 2025, from 11-1 pm, at the Bay Gardens Funeral Home, located on 947 Rymal Road East, in Hamilton. A Memorial Service will take place at 1 pm, in the Funeral Home Chapel. Reception following the Memorial Service, in the Bay Gardens Reception Hall.
Frank will be remembered for his love of family, his gentle humor, and the steadfast strength that defined his life. His memory will live on in all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks for all the love and support during this difficult time.
