It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Kelly Smith at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, in her 65th year. Beloved precious wife of Paul and dearly loved mother of Sabrina. Cherished youngest sister of Jann, Mike (Mayeli), Marc (Joan), Marian (Garry) and Nancy. Dear sister-in-law of Kelly and Rob Nardi. A caring and wonderful aunt to many nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by dear friends, neighbours, past co-workers and extended family members. Predeceased by parents John and Helen, infant great-niece Savanna, and nephew Anthony Unelli (May 2024).
Our beautiful, funny and feisty Kelly was devoted to family and demonstrated her love and kindness in many quiet unassuming ways. Chicken soup drop-offs, unexpected flowers left on doorsteps and offering a helping hand were never in short supply. She opened her heart and her doors when hosting big, fun family dinners and created a load of great memories for Sabrina and her childhood friends in the family pool and backyard.
She was an avid gardener, homemaker, cook (her chili was the best!), reader of thriller novels, traveler to sunny locales and a devout fan of Sauvignon Blanc! And we can’t forget her famous “Kelly Coffee”…a powerfully strong but strangely delicious brew…once you got used to it!
We love her. We’ll miss her. And we are still in awe of how she fought her illness with a tenacity and strength that amazed everyone. Rest in peace now, dear, sweet Kelly. Your battle is over.
Our families would like to acknowledge the incredible care and compassion of the champions in the Emergency, ICU and Medical Step-Down Unit areas at St. Joe’s. Thank you as well to the Palliative Care Team for their support and guidance.
Visitation will take place at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 947 Rymal Road East, HAMILTON on Tuesday, December 3 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral mass to be held at St. Eugene Church, 232 Queenston Road on Wednesday, December 4 at 10am. Internment to follow at Our Lady of The Angels Catholic Cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Lung Association or to copdcanada.info would be greatly appreciated by the family.
She is clothed in strength and dignity – and she shall rejoice in time to come.
