Marlene Margaret Bodden (Coll), age 87, of Hamilton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 30. Marlene will be remembered for her warmth, strength, and unwavering love for her family. She was deeply devoted to both her family and her church. Her faith, kindness, and compassion touched everyone who knew her. Marlene is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Gary George Bodden; her children Brenda (Jim), Chris (Becky), and Gary (Tracy); and her brother Mike Coll. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Katie(Craig), Amanda, Stephanie(Ryan), Taylor(Erin),Nick(Mel)and Maddy(Mike), and cherished great-grandmother to Aylah, Novah, Jaxon, and Marlee. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Joan, and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Her family will forever hold her memory close to their hearts. Throughout her working life, Marlene held numerous positions and was proud of her time with CHCH TV, the Catholic School Board, the Town of Grimsby, and Ormond Veterinary Supplies. Wherever she worked, she was valued for her dedication, warmth, and strong work ethic. Family meant everything to Marlene. She had an amazing sense of humour and a natural gift for bringing people together. The family’s organizer and planner, she was known for hosting gatherings filled with laughter, games, and friendly competition—always complete with one of her special ceramic creations as a prize for the winner. Marlene lived a full and active life. She enjoyed playing baseball and tennis, loved camping, and found joy and creativity in ceramics. A woman of deep faith, she also loved singing in the church choir, sharing her voice and spirit with her community. Marlene was predeceased by her brother Myles, sister-in-law Sue, sister-in-law Shirley, brother-in-law Murray, and her nephew Myles.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, January 15 from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 947 Rymal Road East, Hamilton. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 63 Highway 20 East, Stoney Creek, on Friday, January 16 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Marlene’s memory.
Marlene’s life was one of love, generosity, faith, and quiet strength. She leaves behind a legacy of family, faith, and kindness, and she will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
