In Celebration of

Niels Erik Hansen

It is with great sadness we announce the tragic passing of our beloved and respected husband, father, and grandfather, Dr. Niels Erik Hansen.
Born in Denmark to a family of modest means, Dr. Hansen became a blacksmith but found himself longing for intellectual challenges. Despite not having a high school diploma, Dr. Hansen worked hard to advance himself and completed a B.Sc. and a M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering. He earned his doctorate degree in the same area and worked as a Professor for some years, publishing several papers and patenting designs for machines which are still in use today. He would later complete an Executive MBA from London Business School.
After having run his own company for several years, Dr. Hansen joined Danfoss as a Vice President and successfully lead the merger between Sauer-Sundstrand and Danfoss to become Sauer-Danfoss, moving to England and then the United States as a part of this endeavor.
Thereafter Dr. Hansen and his family moved to Canada.
For the past 20 years Dr. Hansen has worked hard and faithfully for the Van Humbeck family from Winnipeg, Manitoba, as the President and CEO of first Vansco Electronics, then Intelligent Hospital Systems, Inc and most recently ARxIUM.
Despite his success in life Dr. Hansen never forgot where he came from and was always down to earth, approachable, and loved to be hands-on both in his private life when it came to renovating his home and, on the job, when it came to understanding the technology he was dealing with.
Dr. Hansen was the true embodiment of a gentleman and renaissance man. He was known by his business contacts, friends, and family as a man of great integrity, honor, and intellect. He was always fair in his private and business dealings, direct in his communication and expectations, generous, and warm-hearted. He had a dry sense of humor and a fondness for good food and wine.
Dr. Hansen had a unique charisma and drive that inspired and motivated the people around him. He was a natural leader and one of the few profoundly good and decent people you can find in top leaderships positions today.
NEH leaves behind his wife, Dorrit, of 40 years, his three children (Zaza, Kika and Siggi) and one grandchild (Noah).
For all who knew him, his death leaves behind a void which can never be filled.
