It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Steve Wilson, aged 60, who passed away surrounded by family on Friday January 31st, 2025, at Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice.
Steve will be lovingly remembered by his wife Darlene Wilson, his children Shannon, Derek (Cristina) and bonus daughter Robyn. Devoted son of Lynn Wilson (Don) and the late Tom (Carol) Wilson. Cherished by his siblings David (Janice), John, and Sue Wilson, with stepsisters Lianne, Lisa, and Holly. Adored son-in-law of the late Vernon and Anne MacDonald and beloved brother-in-law of Randy (Kim), Keith (Terry), and Blair MacDonald. He will also be missed by niece Tasha and nephews Morgan, Daniel, Jared, and Nathan. He will be warmly remembered for the lasting impact he had as a loving family member, dear friend, valued colleague, and dedicated teammate.
Steve was known for his infectious personality, love of sports, and the joy he found in bringing people together. He was a well-known and respected teacher for 16 years, inspiring many young students to achieve their fullest potential. His zest for sharing knowledge was evident not only in the classroom but also throughout all aspects of his life. He later pursued another passion by starting his own business, where he dedicated himself to helping others secure life insurance and plan for their futures.
During high school, Steve discovered his talent for coaching, a journey he continued throughout his teaching career, and later had the joy of coaching both of his children in their many sports. Steve had the privilege of embracing a life of travel, exploring various regions around the world with different groups of people. His adventures included family road trips across Canada and the United States, university excursions, NASCAR weekends, fishing expeditions, stays at destination resorts, and, of course, his favourite getaway—his beloved home away from home, Souris, Prince Edward Island.
If there’s anything to take away, it’s that there was always a story.
The connections he made within his communities were significant and long-lasting. Steve and his family always opened their home to host and entertain one and all. Steve was always the first to lend a helping hand, and his magnetic personality had people gathering around him. He was never without a group of friends, always up for a chat and making everyone feel right at home. A big part of community for Steve was Sundays at Gourley Park playing baseball with the Brew Jays for an impressive 29 years — though it’s unclear whether he was more committed to the game or the post-game barbeque.
Throughout his life, Steve embodied kindness and compassion. His selflessness and generosity knew no bounds, leaving an indelible mark on everyone alike. When eventually faced with cancer, he accepted it pragmatically, demonstrating incredible resilience, admirable courage, fortitude, and grace. He was fuelled by the everlasting love and support of his family and friends.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Juravinski Cancer Centre, Hospital, and Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice.
